canadiens jersey
It does not matter that stops pucks for the chandail des canadiens. The offense did more than enough to fill the opposing net.

Tomas Fleischmann scored twice and added an assist and David Desharnais contributed a goal and two assists to lift the Canadiens to a 5-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night at the Bell Centre.

It marked the 12th time in 13 games this season as Montreal (11-2-0) scored at least three goals in a game and the sixth time he has scored at least four goals.

Condon was the unexpected starter after it was announced Sunday morning that Carey Price would miss next week with an injury to his lower body.

"I'm not going to try to be Carey. I do not think anyone can, "said the 25-year-old Condon." I'll just try to keep the place warm for him. "

The Jets (7-4-1) could not generate much against Canadians and saw their two-game winning streak snapped.

"We were not very good," said coach Paul Maurice Jets. "They were really good. I can not tell you if they were really good because we were really bad, or vice versa. We simply have not break, and here. "

Jeff Petry crushed a Winnipeg Canadians input into the end, allowing Torrey Mitchell to get the puck up ice. The rapid Byron beat Andrew Ladd at the blue line and Jets skated in alone before deking Hutchison and beat the glove side at 6:34 of the first period.

Fleischmann put the Canadians ahead 2-0 at 4:26 p.m.. Desharnais carried the puck into the Jets zone on the right side and held off a defender as it goes forward. Hutchison made the save on Desharnais but Fleischmann picked up the rebound and tucked it past the left side of the goalkeeper.

The ice was still wet when Fleischmann scored his second of the night just 35 seconds into the second period. The rapid movement of the puck got the puck out of the end of the Canadians and the winger, whose snapshot of the right circle beat Hutchison.

"Just good enough support on the ice," said Fleischmann success of his line, picking up where it left off after a night of seven points in Calgary on Friday. "We help each other. It is a formula Simple but it works for us. "

Desharnais extended lead of two and a half minutes of Montreal later, during an attempt to compensate by Tyler Myers developed a turnover for Canadians. max pacioretty jersey. Condon started in place of Carey Price and improved to 3-0 in three career starts.

Montreal Canadiens remain undefeated after Carey Price shuts out St. Louis Blues

canadiens jersey
MONTREAL — Much has been made of how the chandail des canadiens don’t rely quite as much on star goalie Carey Price this season, but for a period and a half against the St. Louis Blues he had to be the man.

Price made a season-high 38 saves, including 17 in the opening period, to post his second shutout in the last three games as the Canadiens downed the Blues 3-0 on Tuesday night. Montreal extended its club-record winning streak to start the season to seven games.

The save of the game was a spectacular glove effort early in the second frame on Blues star Vladimir Tarasenko, who was held off the scoresheet for the first time this season.

“I actually wound up overplaying it a little bit, so I kind of got a little bit lucky being able to get a piece of it,” Price said. “But any time you can come up with the right save at the right time it’s helpful.

“We had a little bit of a slow first period, but being able to come out with a lead, we were able to regroup in the first intermission.”

Canadiens’ Price takes note of Rangers’ goalie in home opener

Carey Price Jersey
On Thursday, after defeating the New York Rangers in their first home game, the Canadians became the first edition of the club to start the season with five straight wins.

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price Jersey makes a save against the New ...

"It was definitely a fun game," said Canadiens left wing Max Pacioretty, playing his first regular season game as team captain. Carey Price earned most accolades after the game.

A pair of goals from the third line combined with a raised Canadians empty net tally to a 3-0 victory over the Rangers on Thursday night at the Bell Centre.

The Habs won their first five starts this season - a new record for a deductible of 106 years, where it seems everything was done basically at least once - none of the previous four triumphs involved a duel of this goal-tending standard.

Rangers' King gives crown to Canadiens' Carey Price

Pacioretty Jersey
MONTREAL - The way he figures Henrik Lundqvist, the best goalie in the NHL will be on the ice at the Bell Centre tonight when Canadians get the Rangers Jersey in their first home game.

And it's not him.

For now, the franchise goaltender Rangers gives the crown to Carey Price.

"I start thinking about it now we play Montreal, a good team, and Carey, in particular," said Lundqvist The Record after practice Wednesday at Madison Square Garden Training Center in Greenburgh, NY "The way he plays now, he is probably the best goalie. "

Price, 28, has the hardware to back the compliment Lundqvist after collecting four major awards in the playoffs after he went 44-16-6 with a 1.96 goals against average in 2014-15.

Price won the Hart Trophy (MVP), Vezina Trophy (top goalie), Ted Lindsay Price (most outstanding player as voted by his fellow players) while sharing the William Jennings Trophy (fewest goals allowed ).

NHL Picks: Canadiens keep strong start rolling against Senators

Montreal Canadiens Jersey
It's usually pretty difficult to have especially meaningful games in the first week of the season, but Sunday night's contest between the chandail des canadiens and Ottawa Senators will come pretty close.

Both Atlantic Division clubs have started the season 2-0-0 and there might be a little residual bad blood left over from the heated playoff series between the Habs and Sens last postseason. Montreal won the series in six games, ending Ottawa's dream run to close out the 2014-15 campaign.

With both teams playing the back end of back-to-backs, we might also be getting the first glimpse of back-up goalies Mike Condon and Matthew O'Connor for Montreal and Ottawa, respectively. The two rookies could be making their NHL debuts, while spelling starters Carey Price and Craig Anderson, who each were between the pipes Saturday night. Condon beat out established backup Dustin Tokarski in camp, while O'Connor is on the roster in place of the injured Andrew Hammond.

Max Pacioretty: The Right Choice to Captain the Canadiens

max pacioretty jersey
A few weeks ago, the Montreal Canadiens Jersey named Max Pacioretty their new team captain. Pacioretty is the 29th captain, and the third American born captain in Canadiens history.

Some questioned the management’s decision to allow the players to vote for their captain, while others saw it as a good way to get an accurate feel of who the real leaders in the locker room are. This article will look in to the decision that was made to name Pacioretty captain, and will evaluate whether or not this decision was the right one.

Some captains are more vocal, while others stay quiet, but lead by example on and off the ice. Though there are different types of leaders, one thing is absolutely necessary for any team captain: consistency.

It is far too early to determine what kind of leader Max Pacioretty will be, though he does meet the most important criteria. Pacioretty leads by example with his exemplary work ethic on and off the ice, and he is consistent.

In addition, Max Pacioretty is more than just a one dimensional player. In 2014-15, Pacioretty scored 37 goals, almost matching his 39 from 2013-14. While being the most productive offensive threat on the Canadiens, Pacioretty also excelled in his defensive play.

Last season, he was tied for first place in the NHL’s plus/minus category with a staggering +38 differential. The only other player to match Pacioretty’s +38, was Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov.

Canadiens’ Pacioretty returns from injury, wears captain’s ‘C’

Max Pacioretty Jersey
It was a night of firsts for Max Pacioretty.

It was his first game back since suffering fractures to the top of his left tibia July 9. It was his first game in a knee brace. And, most notably, it was his first time wearing the captain’s “C” on that fabled Montreal Canadiens Hoodie.

“It was a very special feeling,” said Pacioretty. “It’s obviously just pre-season, but I still took a lot of pride in wearing it.”

It was good to get it out of the way. Much like it was to get his first shift out of the way, a 42-second sprint up and down the ice — nothing memorable about it.

A few shifts later, the Canadiens were on the power play, and Pacioretty did make something memorable happen, picking up the primary assist on Nathan Beaulieu’s sneaky back-door goal.

“Probably the easiest assist of my career,” he mused, crediting Beaulieu for finding the opening to leave the blue line to make his way to the goal line.

Canadiens’ Pacioretty set for return ahead of schedule

montreal canadiens jersey
BROSSARD, Que. — What seemed unlikely three months ago has now become a reality. When the Montreal Canadiens Jersey host the Ottawa Senators at the Bell Centre Thursday, Max Pacioretty will return to their lineup.

It was during a sprinting exercise in July that Pacioretty felt a tug in his hamstring and as he pulled up, he hyperextended his left knee–causing multiple fractures to his tibial plateau.

All along, the target date for a return to action for Pacioretty has been October 7, when the Canadiens will kick off their regular season in Toronto. But once again, he’s defying the odds to come back earlier than expected from a serious injury.

He was cleared just six weeks after suffering a severe concussion and fractured vertebrae in his neck after a violent hit from Boston’s Zdeno Chara sidelined him in 2011.
The following season, Pacioretty suffered ligament damage to his wrist in a game, but managed not to miss any subsequent games with the injury.

And in 2013, Pacioretty returned to action just eight days after an emergency appendectomy.

Canadiens move Alex Galchenyuk to centre, shift Lars Eller to wing

Canadiens forwards Alex Galchenyuk (left) and Alexander Semin (right) chat during training camp in Brossard, Que., on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015. (Graham Hughes/THE CANADIAN PRESS)
BROSSARD, QUE. - When the Montreal Canadiens Jersey announced that Alex Galchenyuk will play centre this season, most assumed David Desharnais would be the one moved to left wing.
Not so. It was Lars Eller, the team's dependable third line pivot who has been a centre for nearly all his five seasons in Montreal, who was bumped to the wing on what coach Michel Therrien hopes will be a strong second line with Galchenyuk and new right-winger Alex Semin.
For the 26-year-old Dane, it must have felt like a promotion and a setback at the same time.
"I'm not going to go into what my feelings were at the time," Eller said Thursday. "All I'm going to say is I'm excited to be in this position and I think it can be really good.
"I've played wing before. The majority of time I've played centre but it's not unfamiliar territory for me."
The line that has been lighting it up in training camp scrimmages was scheduled to see its first pre-season action Thursday night against Washington.

Five NHL teams best suited for 3-on-3 overtime

canadiens jerseys

Three-on-three overtime is coming to the NHL in 2015-16, and with it a host of adjustments for coaches and players alike. Along with those adjustments, if all goes according to plan, will come more goals and a reduction in the number of games decided by the shootout. But which teams are best poised to take advantage of the shift?

Coaching is difficult to assess in advance, but is obviously going to be a big part of the equation. The St. Louis Blues recently put out part of a fascinating discussion between their coaches analyzing three-on-three hockey. Among the issues addressed were the difficulties of making the long change with that much open ice, the benefits of communication between players and specific plays that the team could use in those situations.max pacioretty jersey.

Personnel is still going to matter, though, and some teams will start off better equipped regardless of how their coaches handle three-on-three.

Goaltending is always vital in a hockey game, but three-on-three should command a specific skillset. The ability to move the puck will be an incredible asset in three-on-three, particularly as it will make opposition line changes difficult. Additionally, goaltenders who fare strongly when facing odd-man rushes—in a lot of cases, the same goalies who do well in the shootout—will probably have an advantage over counterparts who are weaker in those areas.

Speed is going to be at a premium in three-on-three play. It will be vital to have strong skaters who can exploit all the open ice, but it’s going to be at least as important to have players who can get off the ice in a hurry; there’s simply no room for anything less than lightning-fast changes in this overtime format. This may prove even more vital on defence than at forward.

Preseason Game #3 GDT: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Montreal Canadiens

chandail des canadiens
After beating the Ottawa Senators in both games last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs will be icing a very young squad in game three of the preseason against the Montreal Canadiens Jersey tonight (7:30 pm, TSN4).

Game 1 and Game 2 were fun to watch after a long layoff from hockey consisting of months of front office news. It’s always nice to see and talk about players playing actual games.

The team is going through a reformation process with regards to systems play and defensive accountability, and you could see signs of it with both teams yesterday. While pre-season hockey is sloppy and full of flubbed passes and broken play, the determination both squads played with has to remain a constant. Relying on opportunistic offense to offset indifferent defensive play has been a failing tradition of the Maple Leafs over the past three seasons.

The Maple Leafs will be debuting young players Mitch Marner and Nikita Soshnikov tonight while Frederik Gauthier enters the action for the first time this preseason.

Parenteau makes strong impression as Leafs down Senators

TORONTO — Newcomers Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau and Nick Spaling wasted no time making a strong first impression on new Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock.

Parenteau scored twice and Spaling had a goal as the Leafs beat the Ottawa Senators 4-1 on Monday night at Air Canada Centre in the Toronto half of split-squad action to open the pre-season.

"The guys were excited to make the first good impression, and I think it showed," Parenteau said. "I think I felt pretty comfortable out there tonight. I think most of the team did."

Bought out by the Montreal Canadiens Jersey and signed to a US$1.5-million, one-year contract by the Leafs, Parenteau scored two power-play goals. Babcock said Parenteau "was hungry and had the puck lots."

Spaling, part of the trade that sent all-star Phil Kessel to the Pittsburgh Penguins, had a strong showing by scoring a goal in the first and drawing a penalty in the second.

Michael Grabner, the speedy winger the Leafs acquired last week in a five-for-one trade with the New York Islanders, assisted on Spaling’s goal.

"(New players) definitely they made their presence felt," top-line winger James van Riemsdyk said.

Connor Brown, a former teammate of Connor McDavid’s with the Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters, played well in Kessel’s old spot on the first line alongside van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak. Defenceman Stuart Percy also scored a late goal for the Leafs.

Babcock saw a lot of good things but criticized the Leafs for being "reckless" with the puck and trying to make too many cute plays when they’re not there.

"We had lots and lots of things we’ve got to fix," he said.

Since every Leafs player is new to Babcock, even core players were under the microscope. Goaltender Jonathan Bernier stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced in making a strong start to what Babcock characterized as an open competition with James Reimer.

Former Canadiens forward Todd Ewan dead at 49

canadiens jersey
Todd Ewen, a member of the Stanley Cup winning 1993 line-up of the Montreal Canadiens Jersey, has died. He was 49 years old.

CTV Calgary reports Saint Louis police have described the death as a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Ewen broke into the NHL starting with the Saint Louis Blues. He spent 11 seasons in the NHL, playing for the Blues, the Ducks and the San Jose Sharks. He’s best remembered as an enforcer, and was also a member of the Habs when they won the cup back in 1993.

He finished his NHL career after the 96-97 season. During his time in the professional league, he amassed a total of 1,911 penalty minutes.

He is the latest NHL enforcer to die at a relatively early age. Former Calgary Flames defenseman Steve Montador was found dead in his home last February.  And in 2011 three former enforcers were found dead, all from unnatural causes, within a four-month period.

Questions have since been raised as to whether they may have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a condition neurologists believe may have lead to the deaths of several NFL players.

Habs Camp: Eller Plays LW With Galchenyuk at C

canadiens jersey

Habs Camp: Eller Plays LW With Galchenyuk at C, What Does It Mean for Desharnais?

There are moments when you start to believe some people have altered course in a significant way. For the Habs, this is one of them. To be fair, this is a very early time of the camp and pre-season and anything can happen. But, it seems that changes to the forward line combinations are abound with a major impact on how the line combinations will wind up when the season opens.
With the likely aim being to keep Tomas Plekanec playing between Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher, the Habs have united what could be their second line heading into the season as follows:
